Our investigators documented: • Dead and dying piglets discarded in corridors and wheelbarrows • Painful mutilations, including tail docking and castration, carried out without anaesthesia • Mother pigs confined in metal cages so small they cannot turn around • Filthy, overcrowded sheds with excrement-contaminated food and water • Decomposing carcasses, rats inside facilities, and animals suffering from prolapses, tumours, lameness, and respiratory distress As Animal Equality’s Legislative Advocacy Manager, Anna Mulá, explains, these scenes are not isolated cases, but the predictable outcome of an industry that treats animals as disposable - and authorities that consistently fail to act. This investigation also highlights a wider issue that extends beyond Spain. In the UK, enforcement is alarmingly weak: only 3% of farms are inspected each year, and just 1% are prosecuted after a complaint is made. This means that even when concerns are raised, most farms will never face scrutiny.
