Foie gras, french for 'fatty liver', is incredibly cruel. It is made by brutally force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers swell up to ten times their normal size. The public has long been outraged by this practice. A 2024 YouGov poll commissioned by Animal Equality revealed that nearly nine in ten respondents (excluding ‘don’t knows’) support a ban, underscoring overwhelming demand for change. But today’s event made it clear that it’s not just the public calling for an end to this cruelty. Politicians in attendance voiced their disgust and frustration that a ban has yet to be implemented too. Members of the European Parliament even pledged their support, urging the UK Government to uphold its commitments and demonstrating strong political backing across Europe. Now that the majority is firmly in favour of the ban, there’s just one thing left to do: secure the legislation to end it.
